A Family Day Out at the Brecon Beacons Waterfalls

There’s something magical about packing up the car, clipping on the dog’s lead, and heading for a day out in the great outdoors. Last weekend we did just that, trading screens and to-do lists for fresh air, waterfalls, and muddy boots in the Brecon Beacons.

The trails wound their way through lush green woodland, the sound of rushing water guiding us forward. The kids ran ahead, excited to be the first to spot each cascade. Our four-legged adventurer was in heaven — tail wagging, paws splashing in every puddle and stream.

The highlight? Reaching a wide waterfall where everyone kicked off their shoes and had a paddle. Laughter echoed as the cold water splashed around us — the kind of simple joy you can’t bottle but never forget.

We picnicked on the riverbank, sandwiches somehow tasting better in the open air, before carrying on along the trail. The mix of shaded forest, tumbling water, and the wide open sky reminded us how good it feels to slow down and just be together.

It wasn’t a complicated day — no big plans, no schedules — just family, nature, and a chance to reset. We drove home damp, a little muddy, but with big smiles and a tired, happy dog snoozing in the back seat.

Days like this are what Happy Days Stays is all about: moments that pull you away from the ordinary and bring you back to what really matters.
